PJs for Palmy

22 June 2018

An initiative started by Housing New Zealand’s Palmerston North office has managed to collect 100 pairs of pyjamas for children in need.

At a morning tea held today in our office in Palmerston North, the pyjamas were donated to Oranga Tamaraki so that children in their care can stay warm during winter.

Housing New Zealand Administration Support Jasmin Murray, who came up with the idea, says that based on similar campaigns around the country, she decided to run an initiative to support local families in Palmerston North.

“We then reached out to Oranga Tamariki who said that any pyjamas we managed to collect would be really appreciated.

“I made up some boxes and then dropped these into the offices of Corrections and the Ministry of Social Development to allow a place for staff to donate. We also had a couple of boxes placed here in our office. These boxes were left on site for two weeks during June and were then collected.

“We thought we’d get a few dozen, but we were really pleasantly surprised by the response, which is fantastic,” says Jasmin.
