Housing New Zealand will call for proposals in the second half of 2017 from small and medium-sized builders looking to participate in the McLennan development in Takanini.
The 24-hectare brownfield site is being transformed into a new community of 600 homes. Around 10 percent of these are complete and occupied, and construction is well advanced on an additional 10 percent. Housing New Zealand carries out the master planning and subdivision in McLennan; private builders then purchase superblocks to develop house and land packages for selling onto private buyers.
McLennan’s next development opportunity will be open to all market participants, not just current Housing New Zealand builders and developers.
We are awaiting resource consent approval on stage three of McLennan for the construction of 96 new homes. These are predominantly single-level dwellings because of encumbrances attached to this part of the development. The development opportunity will be similar to McLennan Stage 1A as it will also feature a large proportion of three-bedroom, single-storey homes.
Housing New Zealand is currently in the early stages of master-planning the fourth stage of McLennan. This final stage will yield around 100 new homes. We’ll keep you informed on stage four progress in future newsletters. Unlike stage three, stage four allows for the building of two-storey homes.
