Housing and Urban Development Minister Phil Twyford has released the 2018 Public Housing Plan.
This latest version builds on and replaces the 2016 Social Housing Purchasing Strategy, which is managed by the Ministry of Social Development, and provides Housing New Zealand and the housing sector with updated information about where, and how many, additional public housing places are planned over the next four years to June 2022.
The Government is aiming to secure around 6,400 additional public housing places - or 1,600 places per year on average across New Zealand between July 2018 and June 2022, bringing the total number of public housing places in New Zealand to 73,628 by June 2022.
As part of this increased supply, over the next four years Housing New Zealand will contribute on average 1,100 net additional state homes.
