Housing New Zealand is making more efficient use of its land to increase the pace and scale of housing supply throughout New Zealand.
Our staff delivered a further 29 new homes to tenants and their families in Christchurch during October.
Sylvia Street delivered Stage 1 of the project, 5 two-bedroom elderly persons homes. Completion of Stage 2 is due soon.
2 sections on Aorangi Road were completed delivering:
- 1 three-bedroom and 1 five-bedroom homes on the first property and
- 1 four-bedroom and 1 two-bedroom homes on the second property
Kawau Crescent was finished with a four-bedroom home replacing an old 1970s house.
Our biggest re-development in central Christchurch was also completed in October. The Barbadoes Street complex replaced 7 older three-bedroom townhouses with a combination of brand-new 13 one-bedroom and 4 two-bedroom apartments and a communal space for tenants.
Second Chance Programme
Housing New Zealand and the Department of Corrections are partners in a successful scheme where prisoners gain new skills and confidence by building and restoring damaged state houses at the Rolleston Prison construction yard.
In October, a further two new homes were completed, delivered and prepared for tenants to move into. Already, dozens of new homes from this programme have been completed across Christchurch and many more are currently undergoing restoration.
