Housing New Zealand is making more efficient use of its land to increase the pace and scale of housing supply throughout New Zealand.
Throughout the country we have 122 active development sites - 78 of those are in Auckland, 35 in Christchurch, 6 in the Waikato and 3 in Wellington.
During the month of September, Housing New Zealand received keys to 23 new homes from 3 redevelopments in South Auckland. The sites Pallant Smedley, Wordsworth, and Clements Street will home up to 96 Aucklander’s and are a mixture of housing types such as terraced and standalone homes.
All new homes are insulated with double glazing which makes homes warm and less expensive to heat. Energy efficient lights, showers and taps are installed throughout and each home is designed to take full advantage of the sun to create living spaces that are warm and light wherever possible.
Housing New Zealand took possession of 3 completed redevelopment projects in Hamilton during September, with a total of 4 new four-bedroom homes and 4 new two-bedroom homes delivered for social housing.
Six further projects are underway that will be completed over the next few months. These will deliver 25 two-bedroom homes, one four-bedroom home, and one five-bedroom home, responding to demand for social housing, which is mostly for smaller homes and homes for larger families.
Significant construction progress was made during September at Hanson Street and Britomart Street, two of Housing New Zealand’s 5 confirmed redevelopment sites in Wellington City. A total of 145 one-bedroom units will be delivered across the 5 projects, with the first homes expected by June 2018.
Housing New Zealand’s Lower Hutt redevelopment sites are also progressing well, with construction work at the Seddon Street site due to begin in October, and planning well-advanced across the remainder of the sites. Seddon Street will yield 20 two-bedroom units and 2 homes for larger families, with the first homes due for completion in mid-2018.
Last month we broke ground and completed the demolition of the seven 1940’s and two 1960’s houses at our High & White Street, Rangiora development. Work is starting on the 28 one-bedroom houses.
The foundations have been completed at the Dunarnan St, Avonside property and construction for the 3 two-bedroom houses is underway.
