Wellington area managers and their teams organised street clean ups and BBQs in Porirua and Wellington to mark Neighbours Day last week.
Four events were held around Wellington and Porirua at various locations that needed a bit of TLC.
Staff were out in force cleaning up and putting on a BBQ for our tenants and their neighbours," says Kathy, Area Manager Porirua.
"Good neighbourhoods need good neighbours that look out for each other, especially when times get tough. So it was good to see people getting together and get to know each other better.
"Neighbours Day is about bringing people together and fostering neighbourhood connections," says Kathy.
"We tidied up communal areas and gardens and after all that hard work, we put on a BBQ for everyone involved," says Derek Area Manager Wellington.
"We also had Neighbours Day cards available on the day so that neighbours could put down their contact details. Having this information can be so important if something happens like an earthquake. Looking out for each other – especially the vulnerable members of our communities like the elderly is so important at times like this."
Various community organisations contributed their time to the events including NZ Police, Porirua Fire Service, Green Acres, Waste Management, PFM, Waitangirua Action Group and the Salvation Army.
Neighbours Day Aotearoa is an annual event to bring neighbours together over the last weekend in March each year. It is organised and supported by Lifewise, Inspiring Communities, The Mental Health Foundation, Christchurch Methodist Mission and New Zealand Red Cross.
