A very, very special day dawned recently for New Lynn tenant Elizabeth ‘Lizzy’ Trigg who turned 100.
Lizzy lives in a Housing New Zealand complex in West Auckland which has been her home for close to 20 years.
Housing & Urban Development Minister Phil Twyford also visited Lizzy to congratulate her on the significant milestone.
‘I am really delighted I was able to visit Lizzy and celebrate her very, very special birthday”, Minister Twyford said.
The Minister then said he had another big surprise for Lizzy.
“Myself and your local New Lynn MP Deborah Russell have arranged for your 100th birthday to be formally acknowledged in the New Zealand Parliament”, Minister Twyford said.
Lizzy was blown away. “Really, how absolutely wonderful. Thank you so much”, Lizzy said.
When asked about reaching her centennary, Lizzy puts it down to keeping positive and active and says it’s only just a number. Lizzy says when she turned 99 last year planning started back then for her 100th birthday this year.
“I’ve already had a big party with all my bingo friends and I’ll be celebrating all weekend with family and friends’.
Banana cake was enjoyed by all. Bananas are a firm favourite food of Lizzy with her telling everyone today she has eaten many, many hundreds of bananas over her lifetime.
Nationally as at 31 October 2018 and including Lizzy, Housing New Zealand has 4 tenants who are aged 100 plus.
